Larimar

From deep in a mine in the Dominican Republic comes one of the earth’s rarest stones. With color ranging from shades of sky and sea blue to green, with veins of white, sometimes with inclusions of other minerals such as hematite.  Larimar is actually a blue form of the mineral Pectolite that was formed by volcanoes many years ago. It is found in "tubes" created by those volcanoes.  Although Pectolite exists elsewhere in the world, it only occurs in the blue form in this one place, the Dominican Republic on the island of Hispaniola in the Caribbean.

Spiritul healers believe that Larimar affects the throat chakra, opening lines of communication and healing past hurts.   Larimar is also known as  Atlantis Stone, Stefilia's Stone and  Dolphin stone.

Our Story

David Achenbaugh has been making and selling jewelry for over 20 years.  He has traveled the world to find the materials with which he likes to work. He is particularly excited by the beauty and rarity of Larimar.  All of our Larimar is obtained directly from the mine in the Dominican Republic. Dave has been deep down in that mine, the very source of the specimens we offer. He takes great interest in the miners who do this work and particularly enjoys the exchange of ideas and information.

You can often find Dave and his gorgeous jewelry at the Portico Market of the Grove Arcade in beautiful downtown Asheville, North Carolina.
